Gas Heater Repair and Thermocouple Replacement
Problem
The store reported that the ceiling-mounted gas heater in the back room was not producing heat, creating a risk of frozen pipes due to extreme cold conditions. Immediate repair was required to restore heat and protect building systems.
Challenge
The heater failure occurred during cold weather, increasing the urgency of the repair. Loss of heat posed a potential risk to plumbing infrastructure and store operations. Accurate diagnosis was required to ensure the issue was resolved safely and permanently.
Solution
The emergency request was assigned to Michael, HVAC Lead, who arrived on site and inspected the gas heater after checking in with the Manager on Duty. The technician determined that the pilot light was not staying lit due to a faulty thermocouple, preventing the unit from operating.
Actions taken:
- Replaced the defective thermocouple
- Verified that the pilot light remained lit
- Tested the heater to confirm proper ignition, heat output, and safe operation throughout the back room
Results:
By 5:34 PM, the gas heater was fully operational, restoring heat to the affected area and eliminating the risk of frozen pipes. Final testing confirmed safe and consistent operation. Client sign-off was obtained at 5:45 PM, and the job was completed successfully with no return visit required. Client sign-off was obtained at 5:35 PM.
