Cooler Temperature Issue Repair

Problem

The store reported that a refrigerated cooler was operating at 52°F, above the required temperature range. Although the temperature had appeared normal during the previous night’s inspection, the elevated reading indicated a developing refrigeration performance issue that required attention to prevent product loss.

Challenge

The issue was intermittent, making diagnosis more complex. The compressor was cycling off due to a high-pressure safety condition, indicating restricted heat rejection. A full system evaluation was required to rule out electrical, mechanical, and refrigerant-related causes before corrective action could be taken.

Solution

The technician performed a comprehensive inspection of the refrigeration system, including: Fan motor operation Thermostat calibration Safety controls and wiring Refrigerant levels and pressure testing The root cause was identified as a dirty condenser coil, which was causing high head pressure and triggering the compressor safety shutoff.

Actions taken:

  • Shut down power to the unit
  • Performed a deep condenser coil cleaning using foam, approved chemicals, and a low-pressure wash
  • Restored power and restarted the system
  • Monitored system operation to confirm normal pressures and temperature reduction

Results:

After cleaning and restart, the refrigeration system returned to normal operation, and the cooler temperature began dropping as expected. The unit was stabilized and monitored with no further faults observed. The work area was cleaned, and no return visit was required. It was documented that the compressor may require replacement in the future due to operational history, allowing the client to plan proactively.
