Emergency Refrigeration System Repair

Problem

The store reported improper refrigeration performance, creating a risk to refrigerated inventory and requiring immediate emergency service to prevent product loss.

Challenge

Multiple issues were present simultaneously, including a clogged drain line, dirty coils, and an active refrigerant leak. Full access to internal components was required, necessitating partial disassembly of the refrigeration unit. The system needed to be repaired, cleaned, leak-tested, and safely returned to service within the same day.

Solution

Upon arrival, the technician conducted a detailed inspection and shut down power to the unit for safety. The refrigerator shelving was removed to access the evaporator section, and the evaporator cover was removed to expose the coil and defrost heater.

Actions taken:

  • Disconnected and cleaned the evaporator coil
  • Cleared the clogged drain line
  • Cleaned dirty coils to restore airflow and efficiency
  • Performed leak testing, identified the refrigerant leak, and completed the repair
  • Recharged the system with R-488A refrigerant
  • Reassembled all components and restored power
  • Performed final testing and commissioning to verify proper operation
  • The work area was cleaned after completion.

Results:

The refrigeration system was successfully restored to normal operation, with proper temperatures and stable performance confirmed through testing. The unit was left fully operational, no immediate follow-up was required, and the store was able to continue normal operations without further refrigeration issues
