Problem
On December 15th at 6:00 AM, NMC Mechanical received an emergency HVAC service request from Alo Yoga at 4999 Old Orchard Center, Skokie, IL 60077. Store management reported that the air curtain at the storefront was not blowing air, allowing cold air to enter the store and affecting indoor comfort.
Challenge
The challenge was to quickly diagnose and restore the air curtain’s operation to prevent further heat loss and disruption to store operations. The issue required identifying both electrical and control-related faults, ensuring the unit was safely powered, properly repaired, and correctly programmed to match store operating hours.
Solution
Technician Mahmoud was dispatched and arrived on-site, checking in at 10:43 AM. Diagnostic testing revealed the breaker was switched off, preventing the unit from operating. Additional inspection identified damaged wiring that required replacement. The damaged wires were repaired and replaced as needed. The air curtain was reprogrammed and its operating schedule adjusted to run from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The unit was fully tested to confirm proper airflow and operation.
Results:
The air curtain was successfully restored to full working condition, effectively preventing cold air from entering the store. The service was completed at 12:47 PM, and store manager Karina provided sign-off. Indoor comfort was restored, and no return visit was required.
