HVAC EMS Control Failure Repair

Problem

The HVAC unit repeatedly lost heating operation and was found offline through the Energy Management System (EMS) despite prior successful restorations. Each time the system was brought back online, it failed again by the following day, resulting in ongoing heating interruptions.

Challenge

Multiple service visits confirmed that the unit could be brought online temporarily but would not remain operational. Extensive troubleshooting had already been performed, including reprogramming the main board, rewiring the EMS board, and verifying operation through EMS checkout confirmations. Continued service recalls risked further downtime and operational disruption until a permanent EMS repair could be scheduled.

Solution

After confirming that the recurring failures were due to a damaged EMS board, Technician Mahdy Zghool implemented a temporary solution during the third visit to maintain heating functionality.

Actions taken:

  • Bypassed the faulty EMS control system
  • Installed a temporary standalone thermostat
  • Verified proper heating operation independent of the EMS
  • Ensured the unit could maintain heat until an EMS technician replaces the damaged board
  • All work and findings were documented and reviewed with store management.

Results:

The HVAC unit was successfully restored to continuous heating operation using the temporary thermostat, preventing further outages and eliminating repeat service calls. The site was stabilized, heating was maintained, and a clear plan was established for permanent EMS board replacement. Client sign-off was obtained, and the store remained operational with no immediate return visit required.
