Fixing a Main Door Lock
Problem
The store manager, Glenda, reported that the door lock cylinder was malfunctioning, making it difficult to insert and turn the key. The issue created a security concern for the store, as reliable locking and unlocking of the door could not be guaranteed.
Challenge
The lock failure posed an immediate security risk for an active retail location. The store needed to remain open during the repair to avoid business disruption. The replacement had to be compatible with the existing key system to prevent rekeying the entire store.
Solution
The service request was received and acknowledged at 2:30 PM and promptly assigned to Grave, Lead Maintenance Technician. Technician John departed at 2:40 PM, arrived on site at 3:01 PM, and checked in with store management at 3:05 PM. After inspection, John determined that the lock cylinder was worn and internally damaged, preventing smooth key operation. The door was secured during the repair process.
Actions taken:
Removed the defective lock cylinder Installed a new commercial-grade door lock cylinder Keyed the new cylinder to match the existing system Verified alignment and latch operation Tested locking and unlocking from both sides of the door
Results:
By 5:28 PM, the lock was fully operational with smooth, resistance-free key function. Final security and functionality checks were completed, and the job was officially finished at 5:30 PM. Client sign-off was obtained at 5:35 PM.
